Which are the different types of olive oils ?
There are different types/Grades of olive oil, and what are the difference between them ? below you can discover them all
Virgin olive oils obtained directy by mechanical means.
Olive oil is like any other Juice, Is like an orange juice, simply squeezed without using any chemical product for their extraction, they are produced in olive olive oil mill. There are different types/grades,according to their quality. From highest to lowest quality are :
Extra virgin olive oil :
this olive oil type is certainly the best type among all, it is extracted by cold-pressing method to prevent the natural content like aromas and flavour from being altered by exposures to high temperatures. This oil even has lower acidity content <0.3°, it is considered the best simply because it retains most of the natural flavor, aromas and rich in antioxidants.
Virgin olive oil
it has less quality than the previous one, it can have a maximum level of acidity : 2° and light defect.
lampante olive oil
it has an acidity of more than 2° and an unpleasant taste and smell, not suitable for consumption. Refine it is a must.
Refined olive oils using mechanical means
olive oils that do not meet virgin standards undergo additional processing to remove any chemical or sensory defects which make the oil not suitable for consumption and unfit for sale.Also the pomace oil It is extracted from the residue that remains after the fruit is pressed and still contains 2%-4% of oil.
High temperatures and chemchical solvent are used in the process and the oil obtained are :
Refined olive oil: from the refining of lampante olive oil it is is odorless, colorless and tasteless.
pomace olive oil: from the refining of pomace Oil and its like the previous one odroless, colorless and tasteless
Refined oils typically are blended with a small portion of extra virgin olive oil to provide some flavor, aroma and color.
